Hotel Sapo Dorado is located in Monteverde, a privileged location, that places it near two of the most beautiful protected tropical forests in Costa Rica, the well known Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve and the Santa Elena Rain Forest Reserve (at six kilometers).

The hotel has spacious grounds and gardens which provide a safe outdoor environment for children to play, private forest trails and a banana plantation. An interesting walk is the private trail "Sendero Tranquilo" which borders the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Personalized guided tours and binocular rental are available. In addition there are five kilometers of self-guided trails adjacent to the hotel where you can explore both primary and secondary forests, open pastures and panoramic views of the Gulf of Nicoya (Pacific). These trails are reserved for the exclusive use of guests of the hotel and offer a quiet alternative to the larger Reserves.

Sunset Terrace Suites have a spectacular view of the Gulf of Nicoya (Pacific) from an open-air terrace, the spacious Fountain Suites offer the privacy of a master bedroom and the Classic Mountain Suites have a cozy fireplace to warm you on chilly evenings.
All suites have two Queen sized beds with orthopedic mattresses, a table and chairs, dimmer controlled lighting and private bathrooms with hot water showers. The Sunset Terrace Suites and the Fountain Suites have refrigerators. Each suite can accommodate up to four people.

El Sapo Dorado restaurant is known for the creativity, variety, flavor, freshness, and presentation of our food from breakfast to dinner. Our menu always includes a choice of whole grains, vegetarian and vegan dishes, pastas, seafood, chicken, as well as beef, pork, and decadent desserts. Organic produce is used whenever possible.

Our recipes are all unique to El Sapo Dorado or are original adaptations of old favorites. Special dietary needs are easily accommodated with advance notice. The restaurant bar is fully equipped and the staff trained to prepare any classic delight as well as the most exotic of cocktails. We devote ourselves to seeing that quality remains consistent and that service improves daily.

Classical and jazz selections (on compact disk) accompany breakfast and dinner. Latin rhythms provide the atmosphere during the midday hours. Our restaurant has inside seating for nonsmokers as well as terrace seating with a view of the Gulf of Nicoya for those who enjoy a cigarette or pipe. Cigar smoking is not permitted.
