Description:
Welcome to Iguana Lodge ~ Deep in the Costa Rican Rainforest on a
magnificent beach, there exists a world that once was all there
was...the surf rolls in, the moon rises, the fiery-billed aracaris sing
while the howler monkeys call, and on the veranda we await you to join
in our quest for true adventure while refining the vanishing but
cherished art of relaxation.
Iguana Lodge is the
Osa Peninsula's premier beach ecolodge. Established over ten years ago,
Iguana Lodge is founded on the principles of sustainable tourism and
personalized service. With nineteen luxurious rooms scattered amidst
rainforest paths on the most beautiful beach of the Osa, Iguana Lodge
provides an unparalleled experience, providing award winning
accommodations, exquisite dining, and a wide-range of activities that
fully illuminate the beauties of the Osa Peninsula. Meanwhile, Iguana
Lodge prides itself on its spectacular Costa Rican staff, its
conservation efforts (including the turtle project), and its community
programs: the Puerto Jimenez Public Library and Todo Es Posible - our
project to send the Osa's high school graduates to university.
The Osa Peninsula is one of the most biologically intense places on our
planet. It is the "Last Great Peninsula," still untouched by the
ravages of civilization. Here you will find the ancient rainforest with
over 350 species of birds, 115 species of reptiles, 750 species of
trees and 10,000 species of insects...along with the 100,000 acre
fantastic Corcovado National Park. In the midst of this spectacular
setting, Iguana Lodge, a secluded, sustainable, beach ecolodge located
on the best beach on the Osa, surrounded by the Platanares Refuge,
awaits you.
The veranda beckons you to sit down for a moment and simply
relax...savor paradise - listen to the macaws call overhead, or hit the
beach and get a tan. But of course, you may prefer to dive into any
number of truly impressive outdoor adventures ranging from rappelling
down 100 foot waterfalls to the hush-hush of early morning birding. We
offer dozens of different adventures and are happy to tailor them to
please you, your friends and family. And when the day is over, whether
you have spent it swinging through monkey-filled trees, boogie boarding
in the waves, or napping on your hammock, everyone looks forward to the
evening's feast with candlelight, music, great conversation...salsa
dancing perhaps?
We have three lodging options and two great restaurants. You can choose to stay in our secluded Casitas, The Villa Villa Kula (our fab three-story villa nestled in the canopy), or our elegant, up-scale Club Rooms.
Our restaurant options include our award winning Iguana Rancho
(international dining under our huge thatched rancho) and The Pearl of
the Osa Bar and Restaurant, The Iguana Lodge is located on the best
beach on the Osa, overlooking the magnificent Golfo Dulce.
As one favorite guest put it: "The only problem here is ... when you wake up you think you died and went to heaven."

FACILITIES GENERAL INFORMATION
Located on the best beach on the Osa, Iguana Lodge has many
different spots to enjoy. The beach is extraordinary, both restaurants
renowned, your lodging is fab, and the center of it all is the Rancho
Grande. The Rancho is truly an impressive jungle structure: Gaudi would
have been proud.
In the Rancho Grande everyone enjoys breakfast every morning on the
front decks. During the day folks wander through the Rancho to enjoy
the library and art gallery, watch the sights unfold in the huge open
air kitchen, play a game of chess or a bit of music, read up on the
rainforest, join our staff in whipping up a fancy dessert, and when
needed, check in with planet earth on our free internet and WiFi
services. Throughout the day our kitchen spins out inspiring meals, our
library lures folks to enjoy a good book or study up on the rainforest
(it is one of the largest on the Osa - complete with its own crazed
librarian), and in the art gallery Ms. G. O'Keeffe would feel right at
home here amongst the flowers.
Upstairs in the evenings under the lofty native thatched roof, lit by dozens of glowing candles, we feast.
Meanwhile, the solitude and beauty of the beach awaits you, the jungle
of the Osa is calling (literally), Iguana's garden trails and yoga
decks are beckoning, the Pearl's passion-fruit daiquiris are chilling,
and we are still in search of the geisha girls for the Japanese Bath
House, although we have found the masseuse.

IGUANA CASITAS
Straight
out of Jungle Architectural Digest, your secluded two-story casita is
steps from the most beautiful beach on the Osa. Set on pillars and
crafted thoughtfully with indigenous hardwoods and self-sustaining
bamboo, furnished with tropical bamboo furniture and exotic outdoor
showers, it’s challenging to find a more exquisite place to spend a few
nights of your life.
As Lonely Planet says, “This alluring place has the most architecturally memorable lodging in the area.”
Each of our two-story luxurious yet rustic casitas has large, airy
private screened bedrooms with a queen and single orthopedic bed,
mosquito netting (more for the romance than the bugs - bugs are minimal
here in paradise), Egyptian cotton sheets, soft pillows, spa robes,
good reading lights, and hefty fans.
Each casita has its own stone floored exotic hot-water shower (a rarity
on the Osa); some casitas have semi-outdoor garden showers. Perhaps
best of all is your own enormous private, shaded deck where you can
sprawl peacefully in a swaying hammock or read a good book in a plush
lounge chair as you overlook the magnificent Golfo Dulce and the lovely
and fragrant tropical gardens of Iguana Lodge.
Two excellent meals a day (breakfast and dinner) are included in the
price of your stay, and lunch is always available should you choose to
lunch with us here - we hope you do.
THE VILLA VILLA KULA
The Villa Villa Kula is a spectacular three-story villa which we built up in the canopy a few years ago.
The villa has a fabulous master suite on the top third floor which
consists of a gorgeous “Bedroom with a View,” a sprawling deck
overlooking the ocean and jungle, and a luxury bathroom with a
cantilevered shower and bidet. On the second floor there are two
bedrooms that share an enormous deck, again looking out over the jungle
to the beach, and a two room bath area with a shower and separate
toilet room. The ground floor has a huge open living area, complete
kitchen, and powder room.
The house has all the amenities that Iguana typically offers its
guests, such as Egyptian cotton sheets on orthopedic mattresses (two
beds in each room, a queen and a single), reading lights, hot water
showers, spa robes, etc.
We offer all the services of Iguana Lodge such as arranging adventures,
travel and taxis. Fabulous food is always available and if you like
you can choose to purchase a meal plan (breakfast and dinner) for $35
per adult, half price for children under twelve.
Lunch is always available if you choose to lunch with us here - we hope
you do. Other dining options include dining occasionally at either or
both of our two restaurants (the Iguana Rancho and the Pearl of the
Osa), cooking for yourselves, or heading into the jungle and see what
nuts and berries you can hustle up. Puerto Jimenez is about ten
minutes away, and there are several restaurants in town...although we
modestly but accurately report that Iguana and the Pearl offer the best
cuisine on the peninsula.
THE CLUB ROOMS
The
Club Rooms are our newest addition. With lofted ceilings and marbled
bathrooms, the Club Rooms offer elegance in the jungle while situated
on the best beach on the Osa. Some of the Club Rooms have queen beds
and others have two twin beds that make into deluxe kings; all come
with Egyptian cotton sheets and plenty of pillows, towels, hot water,
spa robes, etc.
A fabulous breakfast is
included in the price of your stay, and lunch and dinner options are
available at both our restaurants as well.
